Diving & snorkeling
Manta rays, channels, and reef walls — matched to your certification and dates
The Maldives is one of the world's great dive destinations — but the right site depends on your certification level, the season, and which atoll you're based in. We match all three before recommending anything.
Certification levels
Where you start depends on experience, not age
Discover Scuba
A single supervised introductory dive, no certification needed — good for testing the waters, literally.
Open Water Certification
A 3–4 day course leading to your first real certification, valid worldwide.
Advanced Open Water
Deeper dives, night dives, and navigation — opens up more of the Maldives' channel and drift sites.
Rescue & Divemaster
For divers wanting to go further — rescue skills or a path toward working as a dive professional.

By season and atoll
What to expect, roughly, by time of year
These are general seasonal patterns, not guarantees — marine life sightings vary year to year.
| Season | Conditions | Typically good for |
|---|---|---|
| Jan – Apr (dry, NE monsoon) | Calmer seas, good visibility on the east side of atolls | Channel dives, easier conditions for newer divers |
| May – Nov (wet, SW monsoon) | More plankton in the water, which draws in filter feeders | Manta ray season in Baa Atoll (Hanifaru Bay), typically peaking mid-year |
| Year-round | Varies by atoll and specific site | Whale shark sightings around Dhigurah, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll |
Our approach
Why book your diving trip through us
Certification verified, always
We confirm your certification level before matching you to a center — and confirm the center's licensing before recommending them to you.
Matched to your dates, not just your budget
Manta and whale shark sightings are seasonal and site-specific — we won't sell you a trip timed wrong for what you're hoping to see.
Resort or guesthouse, your choice
Good diving isn't only at luxury resorts — several guesthouse islands sit right next to strong dive sites at a fraction of the cost.
Common questions
Before you book
No — you can do a supervised Discover Scuba dive with no certification, or complete your Open Water certification while you're here.
Usually rented separately from the dive package itself — we'll confirm exactly what's included before you book so there's no surprise at the dive center.
Liveaboards reach more remote sites and pack in more dives per day; resort or guesthouse-based diving is more relaxed and better if you want non-diving time too. We'll ask which matters more to you.
No sighting is ever guaranteed — it's wildlife. We time your trip to the season and site with the best odds, and always work with operators who follow responsible wildlife-viewing practices.
