Maafushi — South Male Atoll
The most established guesthouse island in the country. The widest choice of restaurants, excursions, and guesthouses — a safe, easy pick for a first Maldives trip.
Guraidhoo — South Male Atoll
Quieter than Maafushi with a similar bikini beach setup, and close to some genuinely good snorkeling sites.
Dhigurah — Alifu Dhaalu Atoll
Known for one of the longest natural beaches in the country, and for regular whale shark sightings nearby — a strong pick if marine life is the priority.
Fulidhoo — Vaavu Atoll
Small and slow-paced, known for Bodu Beru cultural drumming evenings. A good choice if you want something quieter than Maafushi.
Dharavandhoo — Baa Atoll
Close to Hanifaru Bay, one of the world's most reliable manta ray snorkeling sites during season — worth the slightly longer trip from Male.
Gan — Laamu Atoll
Further out but connected by causeway to several neighboring islands, giving you more to explore on foot. Quieter and less touristy than the South Male islands.
